This is what I do when I should be working on a group project and my home exam. I'm also going to go visit work and sis later today. Oi. But for now...

Oh, you all know this one. It's one of the catchiest there is :D

<lj-embed id="2" />

My former, very annoying upstairs neighbours used to play it loudly and sing very badly along very late at night. But it's still likable. Well, they rocked out to the Swedish version.

<lj-embed id="3" />

You might note that in the Swedish version they're called "Bumbi" instead of "Gummi" bears. It's probably because "gummi" means "soft plastic" in Swedish. In the one below it's "Bumpi", I think XD

And then there's the Norwegian version, which is freaking HILARIOUS.

<lj-embed id="4" />

I can't properly explain to you English speakers why the Norwegian version sounds so ridiculous (it's still cute though). Swedish and Norwegian are very alike, but there are words that differ in meaning. They sing "spretter" for "bouncing", for example, which sounds like "sprätter" in Swedish = "flicking". Just imagine the English version being sung by a guy with a heavy French accent or something.

And, of course...

<lj-embed id="5" />

I still can't get over that he's supposed to have such a dark voice in the original. In both the Swedish and German versions he sounds very nasal and silly.

<lj-embed id="6" />

... at least when it comes to fiction.

So we were roleplaying again on Sunday, and this time the GM brought one of his friends who's been playing DnD and all the other good stuff with him for several years. Now, our characters are a greedy, stupid (yet equipped with the skillz for fairy-like grace and a silver tongue due to rolling for those) dwarf (who's hilarious), a strong-as-a-troll but meek-willed elf warrior who's the daughter in law of my bitchy old scholar elf lady.

The new guy brought a monk wearing a leather kilt and a pair of thick leather straps crossing over his chest. I resisted the urge to mumble something about how gay that sounded, and he played said monk with ridiculous stoicness which didn't make it any better. Lesse, when the other three of us talk, it goes something like this:

Dwarf: "I told ya he'd come back and get us into trouble!"
Daughter-in-law: "But we kinda owe him..."
Dwarf: "I ain't owing him nothing!"
Me: "Shaddap, you selfish moron."
Dwarf: "Why am I still hanging around with you?"
D-i-l: "Why are we still letting him hang around with us?"
Me: "Because he's a meatshield."
Dwarf: "WHAT?!"

The monk dude, however, talked something like this:

"I am Jörgen of the Order of the Dark Rose (or whatever). I travel the land seeking out injustices to do battle with, as these are grim and dangerous times indeed."

PEOPLE DON'T TALK LIKE THAT. JESUS. Well, he was fun otherwise, but you could tell that though both he and the GM were laughing at all the craziness going on and helped out at it, they both preferred the High Adventure Epic Fantasy Style of it all. Pff. Maybe if I knew more about the world I'd take it more seriously, but I cannot with a straight face play a character that talks like they're in Lord of the Rings.

Well the story went that some guy had saved our characters from bandits and then he showed up again trying to get to some island he'd been born on because his daddy sent for him, so of course we had to help out. And of course, when we got to the island and the family farm, it was torched and there was a pile of bodies. The GM then acted out the NPC rushing over to one of the bodies going "NOOOOO! FAAAAATHEEEEER!"

I don't think he liked me muttering "Oh gnoes, I saw my parents die..."

And then one surviving servant stumbled out and held a death speech while dying in my arms. No, really, a speech, detailing all the horrors of the attack and all but describing every little detail about what had happened. The GM acted that out too in a highly dramatic way.

As we later left my apartment to go buy food, the monk player and the GM talked about how sad and dramatic that scene always is no matter how many times they play it. I think I've simply seen too much over the top tragedy in my fiction reading and writing days to be the slightest bit fazed. The only thing I felt about all of that was "Well this wasn't totally expected."

But it was still fun, because right after that the dwarf suggested we loot the bodies, which got all of us smacking him (even the NPC). Well, I missed, of course because I only have 1 in battle and thus I can't hit a guy with my fist even when I'm standing right behind him unless I roll a friggin' 1. I really think there are times when you could put the dice aside.

Ah well. It still makes for fun tiemz. Those discords between playing styles isn't causing that much friction.

And now I better get going with all the things I need to get done today.

:D

Being home at the 'rents causes unusual things to happen. Mainly that I watch TV, which never happens when I'm home (granny never seems to pick up on this because she keeps asking both sis and me if we've seen this or that show). Mum was watching "Körslaget" - "The Choir Battle" - when I got home from visiting filthyjinx. It's a show where Swedish artists go out and audition people off the streets in their hometowns, make a choir out of them, and perform songs on a weekly basis where the viewers get to vote on who continues towards the finals. It's one of those kinda fun things that I don't bother with but don't mind watching.

Come to think of it, a lot of Swedish contests involves artists trying to answer questions and doing charades etc for our amusement. We've got a lot of 'em being able to laugh at themselves.

Aaanyway, back to the choir battle thingy... watching it reminded me of the trailer for the last season, which was pretty much made of win. Yes, they are completely and uterly making fun of themselves, because it's nowhere near serious enough to warrant... this.

EPIC.
Finished Dragon Quest: Swords. That was brutally short. Not as short as NiGHTS, but still. Is that a trend with all the next generation consoles? I understand that the desperate demand for top-notch graphics forces them to cut down on other things (one of the main reasons I don't care for great graphics), but you'd think that with the Wii not having the same abilities of the PS3 and 360 it wouldn't be so apparent.

Ugh.

Oh well. It was fun while it lasted, though it definitely left me with a "That's IT?" feeling. You could claim that even the FIRST DQ game had a more complicated plot. You did have to run off to save the princess. I can dig it though. Simple and clean, and for a classic series. I liked the style of it too, and I hope they'll develope it in future games by giving you and the enemies more freedom.

Hmm. Suppose I could get that new Harvest Moon game. That should hold me over for quite a while when WoW feels boring. And with "new" I mean Tree of Tranquility. Goddamn you slow PAL conversions!

I'm still amazed that the hero didn't look like Son Goku.

He looked like that android chick Krillin married.

That's a good thing I suppose.

In a more lighthearted tone... I dunno, does anybody still care about Naruto? I sure don't, but sometimes you just hear stuff that blows your mind from you're doing it wrooong!

When I heard that Kakashi had gotten killed in the manga a long time ago, I said "Oh well, that sucks." I didn't care much for the series, but from the little I saw of it I liked him as a character.

And now I hear that he lives again, because Naruto beat up the villain and then told him to go home. And before the door hit his ass on the way out, said villain waved his hand and resurrected all the people he had killed.

-_o

You know, when Dragonball first pulled that stunt, it had a purpose. Hell, even the second time. But it's not a good way to cope with loss in fiction because it takes away the meaning of the drama you've already completed.

And I'd say some more things about that but while writing it I realized that I'm pretty much going to do something similar myself soon, though hopefully in a more dignified manner.

The good news is that you can all disregard that last open post, it seems to be just a bunch of hot air rumours.

The bad news is, there's a blue post on the official forums (I'll post a link later when I get home wtf why am I writing this while in the uni library oh right I have nothing to do until class but anyway)... yeah, Warchief Garrosh.

Guuuuh.

But the blue post also says that we haven't seen all of him yet (oh this better be EXCEPTIONALLY GOOD), aaand there's a hint at that the Icecrown raid won't be the end of WotLK.

...

"The Sunwell was merely a setback!" :D

I still haven't, but I couldn't avoid this bit.

Garrosh is confirmed to be the new leader of the Horde. He's redesigned Orgrimmar, and has actually evicted all but the orcs and tauren from the center of the city, saying that only those two races are strong enough to defend it.

YOU OWE ME A NEW MONITOR YOU ASSHOLE

They did it.
We've so far gotten two written assignments on my Master's course. I'm halfway done with the one due next week. It's just cobbling together some info on a random article to prove that we understand the process of finding scientific articles. It's pretty much just writing an article summary and present how I went about finding this thing.

The other assignment is bigger and should consist of 12 000 words-

Wait

Not words.

12 000 letters, INCLUDING spaces? Jesus, you get 2000 for just a little more than half a page! And we're talking 4000 per article to discuss. That's NOTHING.

This all seems waaay too easy. *shifty eyes*

(I'm probably going to get shot for saying this, aren't I?)

Of course, I have yet to start writing, but anyway...

Offhand, it must have been waaaay too long since I sat down and wrote something when I find myself looking at my fingers flying over the keyboard and thinking "when did I learn to write THIS fast?" I know I've said it before but I love the sound of the keyboard clicking. ^_^

Guh. I really wish I wasn't working this weekend. Oh well. Monies!

Finally something new to my palate, that was quite a while ago. OMG chanterelles are delicious why have I neglected to notice this for twenty-seven years?! Well I've eaten them before, but not cooked like they should be, as I have now done - with enough butter to deepfry them XD

And now, my real story of the day.

While waiting for the train yesterday, I went to a huge ol' bookstore and just browsed what they had. A book called "The Fantasy Artist's Bible" caught my eye and I went to flip through it just for fun. The first picture in it, which was also the first step-by-step lesson on how to draw action, depicted a mostly naked Amazon woman fighting a tentacle monster.

I should be less surprised, I really should.
